Introduction

Car Graphic

Graphic Design is a program designed for the student who wishes to pursue a career in the field of Digital Pre-Press, more commonly known as Graphic Design. Today the field of Graphic Arts encompasses a wide spectrum of sophisticated skills, methods, processes and techniques. All printed materials, regardless of the process used, are produced in three operations: pre-press, on-press, and post-press. Also with the element of the World Wide Web upon us, the inspiration for creative graphics needs to be mastered. In this program the student will use hands-on instruction along with instructor guidence to accomplish these skills. The Program is taught in six, three-week modules. Upon the succesful completion of course requirements of all six modules, the student will recieve a diploma, certifying their skills. The student is not required to have any previous computer or graphic skills. The student must have a high school diploma or GED and pass the Zoom Graphics entrance exam.

Computer Basics

Whether you are training with a Mac or PC, they both posess a short learning curve and an ease of use. Most people can familiarize themselves with the basics and become fairly productive in a very short time. Another important advantage is the similarity of commands and methods of operations across applications. You can apply many of the techniques you use in one application to other applications.

Adobe Photoshop Module 1

Program Length: 3 weeks--3 Credits
Students will learn this premiere image-creating and editing program to round off their Graphic Design skills. Using a flatbed scanner, they will learn to scan and manipulate photo images or art work. They also will learn retouching and special effects and many more tips and tricks.

Adobe Illustrator Module 3

Program Length: 3 Weeks--3 Credits
Used by many graphic designers today, Illustrator proves to be the leading drawing program. The student will learn how to use the drawing tools of this powerhouse drawing program. After creating illustrations, the student will also learn how to apply these techniques to other programs such as Photoshop, Indesign and Quark xpress.

Adobe InDesign Module 4

Program Length: 3 weeks--3 Credits
Welcome to Adobe InDesign. Rarely has the introduction of an application in graphics training caused as much excitement as this one. InDesign has some very revolutionary features to offer the graphic designer. The student will learn to utilize its powerful plug-ins as well as its typographical technology as it applies to the Desktop Publishing Revolution. As you become familiar with this powerful tool, you will be well prepared for the following Quark XPress Module.

Advanced Photoshop Module 5

Program Length: 3 Weeks--3 Credits
During the advanced phase of Adobe Photoshop, the following techniques are covered. Layer Blending Modes, Special Visual Effects, Special Lighting Effects, Layer Management, Type Techniques, Compositing/Masking Techniques, Colorizing Line Art, Colorizing Black & White Photographs, Advanced Layer Styles.

Advance Illustration and Page Layout Module 6

Program Length: 3 Weeks--3 Credits
In the final Module of the Graphics Design program, the student will explore and apply advanced techniques of Special Effects in Illustration and Page Layout. The student will fine tune their creative skills by appling these techniques to projects for portfolio presentation.

Designing a Portfolio

Upon completion of the program, the student will prepare a resume and a portfolio of completed course assignments. At this time, the student will prepare for job search.
