Rick R. Garcia Director of Zoom Graphics, graduated from Bakersfield Junior College with an Associate Arts Degree, studying Architecture, Graphic Design and Photography. After serving in Viet Nam from 1970 to 1971, he continued his education at the University of San Jose and Cal State Bakersfield.
In 1973, Rick began his career as a survey crew member with the Kern County Public Works Department. In the following years Rick obtained experience in the fields of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Graphic Design, working for local firms like Tenneco West Engineering, L. Bruce Nybo, Martin-Mclntosh, Dennis DeWalt, Land Concepts, and Simpson VanCurren. Rick has been in a supervisory position over the design and preparation of construction plans for several civil engineering firms in Bakersfield.
In 1988 Rick created Zoom Graphics providing computer aided drafting and design services to the San Joaquin valley. In the following years Rick decided that a training facility, specializing in the field of Computer Aided Drafting was needed in Bakersfield. After recieving approval to operate from the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education in 1993, Rick decided to add Graphic Design, Web Design, and Medical Insurance Billing programs, to the list of course approvals.
Rick has been extensively involved in land planning and the facilitation of permit approvals, through negotiations with representatives of public agencies. Rick's responsibilities have also included the design of residential and industrial subdivisions, mobile-home parks, commercial and residential structures.
Rick also has years of experience working with computer aided drafting systems, specializing in AutoCAD and an array of graphic, animation and digital video diting software and not to mention his hands on expierence with Electronic Health Records software as related to the allied heath care field.
Rick's achievements include Businessman of the Year and was recently awarded Small Business of Year by the Small Business Development Center.
Erik M. Garcia, is in charge of the internet technology department. Erik also designs for a local structural engineering firm. Erik has been working professionally since his Junior year in high school and his knowledge of computers and array of software makes him a valuable asset to Zoom Graphics, School of Design.
Rick R. Garcia, Director of the art department since 1994, possess a range of talents and skills, specializing in an array of graphic, web, animation and digital video editing software. Rick's list of accomplishment's include the design and preparation of a variety of web and graphic design projects including the Zoom Graphics School of Design web site.
Elizabeth Nunez, after graduating from Foothill High School, decided to further her education at Zoom Graphics School of Design, pursuing her goal of becoming a designer. Upon completion of her computer aided drafting and design program she interned at Zoom Graphics School of Design. Upon a brief internship she was hired by Zoom Graphics Design Center to assist the Director with a major piping project. Her job duties consisted of preparing isometric spool drawings for shop fabrication at ARB, Inc. Her design skills also include Architectural, Civil and Process Pipe Drafting.
Elizabeth also assists the director in the computer aided drafting lab as an assistant instructor. Elizabeth is shown below preparing drawings for the ARB, Inc. project in Martinez, California.
Rick R. Garcia is the director and head instructor of the allied health department at Zoom Graphics Design Center. He created the insurance coding and electronic claims program in 1994 now known as Electronic Health Records. Prior to that time, Rick launched a successful school in computer aided drafting, graphic and web design. Never working in any aspect of the allied health care industry, Rick was thrilled when asked to introduce a hands-on insurance coding and electronic claims program to Zoom Graphics Design Center list of course approvals. The results of that program led him to train under the direction of Carol Morgantini, nationally certified coding specialist and gain hands-on experience with a variety of electronic health records software programs. When asked about going back to school, he says, “You are never too old to learn something new and get excited about it!”
Rick is an enthusiastic, passionate, and knowledgeable educator who has humor, real-world experiences, and current learning methods to make learning enjoyable for his students.
